Eye exams are a vital part of preventive health care. They’re essential for assessing your overall ocular health, detecting eye diseases, and determining your current eyeglass prescription. But do you know they can also reveal other health conditions, like diabetes, heart disease, or cancer?
At Eyes Harvest Hills, we treat you as the unique person you are and focus on your system as a whole. You’re not just your eyes! We take our time to get to know you, understand your visual concerns, and learn your history to provide you with truly personalized care. Our goal is to build strong relationships with our patients (you!) so we can notice even the smallest changes in your vision.
Regular eye exams are essential for detecting early signs of ocular disease. Many eye diseases develop with minimal symptoms and can progress for years before you notice changes to your vision. A routine eye exam will reveal signs of a problem before it becomes critical.
To stay on top of your ocular health, our doctors recommend annual eye exams for everyone on starting at 6 months of age.
Every eye exam at Eyes Harvest Hills consists of several points of inspection to assess your eye health and visual system (the connection between the eyes and the brain):
At Eyes Harvest Hills, we have heavily invested in advanced state-of-the-art equipment. This technology gives us a clear picture of all aspects of your eyes, allowing us to provide you with a thorough and also comfortable exam.
The Optomap is an ultra-wide retinal camera that takes a high-definition image of the back of your eye. This non-invasive exam allows us to see early signs of eye diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease. It also allows us to see signs of other health conditions, like stroke and diabetes, among others.
Slit-lamp anterior segment photography takes high-definition pictures of the eye’s anterior segment, the part of the eye that includes the cornea, iris, ciliary body, and lens. These images allow us to see several eye diseases, including cataracts, corneal conditions, macular degeneration, and pterygium.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) takes cross-section images of the retina. These incredibly detailed images allow us to view the retina’s thin layers to detect early signs of eye diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic eye disease.
The visual field (perimetry) test is a non-invasive exam that assesses your entire field of vision to determine potential vision loss from diseases like glaucoma.
We use the most advanced technology, meaning you won’t encounter the “eye puff” test here! We use iCare to take accurate measurements of your eyes in an easy, comfortable way.
LipiScan provides dynamic meibomian imaging quickly and accurately, helping to ensure a comfortable experience for our valued patients.
Your ocular health is the most important thing to us. We’re excited to see you for your regular eye exams and be a big part of your healthcare team. Call us for an appointment or walk-in if you’re in the neighborhood!
